12 Baskets Ministry

Jesus miraculously fed 5,000 men one day with only a few loaves and fishes, and twelve baskets of leftovers were even gathered after everyone had eaten.  Here at First Church, we believe that we can continue some of that same miraculous generosity by reaching out to a different ministry in our local community, nation, or world each month.  Below is our schedule for 2020.  Donations of goods (when applicable) can be brought by the church office and placed in the blue bins outside the church office anytime the church is open.  You may also bring them with you to worship on Sundays and there is a collection point in the narthex of the sanctuary as well.

2020 Schedule

ROCOC’s goal is to keep birth families intact or assist relative caregivers who provide care to children.

bathing supplies for the homeless shelter

We support Rowan Helping Ministries in a variety of ways through the year, but this April we intend to focus on their need of bathing supplies for the homeless shelter in Salisbury.  Donations of soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, disposable razors, washcloths, towels, and deodorant will be collected through the end of the month.

Family crisis council

The Family Crisis Council works to support victims of domestic violence and their families.  We will post a list of their critical needs as we get closer to May.

Reconstructing armenia

Many of our members have been a part of building teams to Armenia with Project AGAPE.  We will be collecting supplies and donations of financial support as well during the month of June.  Please continue to keep the people of Armenia in your prayers.

Back to School Supplies

With school starting back in early August, it is extremely important for us to help the most needy in the China Grove community with free school supplies.

We will be collecting supplies for the Terri Hess House in the month of August to help alleviate the problem of child abuse in our area.  More details to come.

Keeping Children Clothed in Armenia

Our 12 Baskets Collection for September will go to benefit Project Agape in Armenia.  We are collecting new and gently used children’s clothing and new shoes to give to the children in Armenia in place of Christmas Shoe Boxes this year.  You may bring your donations by the church office anytime during the coming weeks.

UMCOR Blankets

UMCOR is the United Methodist Committee on Relief, and unlike many other agencies that work to bring relief to areas of the country and world hit hardest by natural disasters and other tragic events, UMCOR donates 100% of the designated offerings of individuals to the cause.  We have a special Sunday each year when United Methodist churches donate to cover their operating costs to make this possible.  As October approaches, so does the cooler weather, and your donations in October of blankets can help people in adverse situations across the globe to stay warm.  More details as we get closer to October.

Veterans Relief

We will be devoting our missional efforts in November to helping with the needs of our veterans.  More details to come.
