August 22 – October 3 First United Methodist Zoo Fall Programming

August 22 – Come join us Sunday afternoon in the children’s church room to learn about Spinner Dolphins and accepting others. Preschool starts at 4:15 p.m., then at 5 p.m. we will join the elementary and the youth for a nacho snack in Langford Hall. At 5:30 p.m. our elementary group will meet. Here are a few cool facts about the spinner dolphins. A spinner dolphin can have as many as 250 sharp teeth. A spinner dolphin can spin in the air seven times in a leap! When a spinner dolphin exhales, air leaves its blowhole at 100 mph!

August 29 – Come join us on Sunday afternoon in the children’s church room to learn about the gorilla and anger. Preschool starts at 4:15 p.m. Then at 5 p.m. we will join the elementary and the youth for a snack in Langford Hall. At 5:30 p.m. our elementary group will meet. Here are a few cool facts about the gorilla. Gorillas eat over 130 different plants. Male gorillas can grow to be 6 ft (1.8m) tall.

September 19 – Come join us on Sunday afternoon in the children’s church room to learn about the goose and bearing others’ burdens. Preschool starts at 4:15 p.m. Then at 5 p.m. we will join the elementary and the youth for a snack in Langford Hall. At 5:30 p.m. our elementary group will meet. Here are a few cool facts about the goose. A goose eats about 3 pounds (1.4k.g.) of grass a day. A goose can live for up to 25 years.

September 26 – Come join us on Sunday afternoon in the children’s church room to learn about the coatimundi, and being teachable. Preschool starts at 4:15 p.m. Then at 5 p.m. we will join the elementary and the youth for a snack in Langford Hall. At 5:30 p.m. our elementary group will meet. Here are a few cool facts about the coatimundi. Costimundis can live up to 14 years. Coatimundis give birth to 3 to 5 babies at time.

October 3 –  Come join us on Sunday afternoon in the children’s church room to learn about the butterfly and being transformed. Preschool starts at 4:15 p.m. Then at 5 p.m. we will join the elementary and the youth for a snack in Langford Hall. At 5:30 p.m. our elementary group will meet. Here are a few cool facts about the butterfly. The wingspans of some butterflies are more than 10 inches (25.5cm) across! There are over 20,000 kinds of butterflies. A butterfly cannot fly if its body temperature drops below 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

 

Socktober

During the month of October our Children’s Ministry will be collecting socks for the homeless. Our 3rd through 5th graders will head this project up and then take the socks to Rowan Helping Ministries in November. Each Sunday we ask that you bring a different type of Sock.

October 3rd – White Socks

October 10th – Colored Socks

October 17th – Pattern Socks

October 24th – Funky Socks
